Baby Rabbit Formula (from Linda Willis www.NorthWindsFarms.com)
1 C. 2% milk
1 egg yolk
1 T. powdered milk
1 T. Karo syrup (light or dark)
1/2 tsp. Bone Meal
Mix thoroughly, keep refrigerated. Warm to 90 degrees (like Human baby milk) before serving. Use a standard 3 cc syringe (without needle) to feed. Feed every 12 hours, all they want. Massage tummies, to make them "go to the bathroom".
Actually, I mix this in a blender and freeze what I do not need right away in ice cube trays (the covered ones from Tupperware will keep it freshest). Then I thaw and warm the number of cubes I need in a custard cup (also called a ramekin) resting in a 1 Qt. bowl (the Corelle ones fit on a coffeemaker base perfectly) with water in it, sitting on the base of my coffeemaker. The waterbath helps to keep the formula warm, while I am feeding, as it cools off too quickly, otherwise. When I take the formula and waterbath to go and feed, I put another waterbath bowl to warm, then switch out, when the first bowl cools off too much.
Try using an "oral dosing syringe" (they are normally found at the Pharmacy counter) to feed with—it fits better in the mouth & it is much easier to tell how much each has eaten that way
DON'T FORGET, hold bunny VERTICALLY (nose in the air) while feeding & feed slowly--you do not want them to breathe it in.
Milk in the lungs = dead bunny :-(
